Clinic Content Options: Groundwork Systematic groundwork can be used as a confidence builder and as a basis to establish hierarchy between horse and rider. Serenity Training Learning serenity can help to desensitize a horse and build a confident rider. It can allow for the mastery of alarm situations so that a rider can competently avoid accidents through proper decisive action. Circus Lessons Circus is an ideal “recreational activity” for all kinds of horse and their owners who are looking for a fun change of pace. Circus tricks are a great way to improve communication between horse and owner. This course offers an insight into the training structure and safety precautions when teaching tricks. It will also demonstrate how circus lessons can be used as behavioral therapy. In-Hand Work and Longe Work Through in-hand and longe work, a horse owner/rider can learn to tell if a horse is moving biomechanically correct. These lessons focus on relaxation and stretching exercises to build necessary muscle and structure that will help a horse under saddle. This kind of work is especially good for horses with back problems (of course, in cooperation with chiropractors/osteopaths and your vet!). Longe/Sitting Lessons Steinbrecht calls this the key to harmonious riding. Giving lessons on a longe line removes many variables from the control of the rider so that he/she can safely concentrate on correct breathing and visualization techniques. The rider can really focus on moving with the horse. This can be a great way to develop balance, confidence, and safety! Classical Riding Harmonic riding originates from the classical school, and therefore, forms the basis of my training. I use biomechanical principles that logically build upon one another to explain how classical riding works. I will adjust the method of my teaching to each individual rider. When I am working with a very logically thinking rider, I explain the technical aspects of classical riding in great detail. When I am teaching a nervous rider, I will provide them with lots of positive imagery (some borrowed from Sally Swift and Feldenkrais) and work with them at a comfortable pace. I seek to make my students into thinking horsemen/women, therefore, I tend to work a great deal of theory into practical training. My students will find that I am constructive and motivating, while providing directed theoretical background.
